Evangelism, Seth-Style

A random sweet picture of Seth and his cousin, Cayla Joy.

Seth has been cracking me up lately with a few little encounters and the way he has handled them. Here are a few of my favorite funny ones.
We were at Gabe's baseball game recently, and some of the siblings of the players were playing together. As will always be the case, there were some ornery ones in the bunch. I was watching (from afar) this boy push Seth a few times. I could hear Seth ask him to stop, then again, then Seth said, "Hey, why are you doing that to me?" I couldn't hear the next thing Seth said because he leaned down and said it quietly to the boy. Then, in his loudest voice-and if you know him at all, you know he has always had only one volume(LOUD)-he shouted (in front of all the parents/other viewers), "Mom, he doesn't know about God!" That got a few laughs from people...not sure who the parents of this kid were or what they thought about that.
During the same game, there was this awful little girl. I apologize for saying that, and you all know I love children, but she was awful. Seth had this little Lego booklet thing with him to give him something to look at in case he got bored. Well, this girl went up to him and grabbed it right out of his hands. I could hear him ask her for it back, and she said no. I walked over and, so she could also hear, told S to say, "Please give that back. It belongs to me." She again said no, even with me standing there. I then said to her, "You need to give that back, sweetie. We brought that from our house and we would like it back." I am not kidding you, she looked at me, smiled, walked away, then crumpled it up and ripped it. I don't think I need to verbalize what I wanted to do to that little girl-not because I really cared about that booklet, but because of her audacity. I didn't know what to do after that...S was very upset, and so it took a while to calm him down. I said to him, "If if makes you feel any better, I would like to spank her little bottom, but I don't think her parents or God (since it would be done in anger!) would appreciate that." That made S smile a little, and all was (semi)well. This leads me to my next story...
Well, Gabe had another game, and we knew this girl would be there. I spent some time prepping S about forgiveness, etc. and prayed for a good outcome. Nile's mom had given S and J a soda to share, so they went off to play and drink it. Pretty soon, S comes back and says excitedly, "Mom, I gave that girl a drink of my pop!" I look over, and it's THAT GIRL. I must admit that I was thinking, why would you give that little brat a drink?! :) Instead, I told him that was very nice of him to share. S said, "Yeah, I made a deal with her. I told her if she starts reading Jesus bible stories and praying, then she could have a drink. She said okay!" So cute! He also told her she shouldn't say the Lord's name in vain, and corrected her nicely every time she forgot. Go figure, they played nicely the whole game.
Seth was telling me how, when he and J were at the park with Daddy, these girls wouldn't let him play with them and kept calling him a stranger every time he tried to come into their area. He said, "I kept telling them I'm not a stranger, I'm a Christian!"
I had all the kids with me at Target, and this nice guy was talking to us for a long time. I had trouble breaking away, he just kept talking to me and the kids. Finally, Seth said to him, "I know why you're so nice. You must know about Jesus." Then there was an awkward silence when this guy didn't respond to that. I gave a polite smile, and said, "Maybe you're right, Seth" and we moved on. I'm never sure how to handle those things, and always think of better ways once I get away from the situation!

GO seth!!! Poor guy, he's handled himself so well!

that little girl's got me all riled up! you did a better job than I would have. I probably would have gone mouthing off to her parents, and that probably wouldn't have gone over well...
